If you are dealing with child protection services you will probably find yourself referred to any number of programs and services, some of which you may find really helpful, others not so.

Whilst you may end up with a number of counsellors, therapists, parenting advisors and/or support workers it is important to develop and nurture your own networks, independent of the mandated services in your family's life.

Personal relationships with friends and family who are non-judgemental and encouraging are vital.  You may feel like isolating yourself at times, but remember to nurture these relationships.  Similarly you may need to avoid or end relationships with people who make the situation worse for you.

Legal and advocacy support, and the support of others who have been through what you are experiencing (see our Blog page) is also important.  Surround yourself with as many supportive people as you can who will provide practical advice, encouragement, understanding, respect and will assist you to protect and uphold your family's rights.

There are a number of links below to assist you, including links to other parents sharing about their experiences.

Consider starting a support group with other parents and families facing similar issues in your area.   We are keen to support the development of support groups around Victoria and would love to hear from you if you know of, or would like to start, a support group.
